In Lleida, a 20-year-old woman did not file a formal complaint after a sexual assault near the city’s bus station early on Sunday morning, according to the Mossos d'Esquadra.
Police said they activated their protocol for victims of gender violence and took the woman’s statement. The incident happened shortly after 3.30am, when the victim was reportedly returning home and was approached by an individual who sexually assaulted her.
She later told her friends, who alerted the police. The case remains a reminder that victims can seek support even when they do not want to begin a formal criminal process.
Last year, the Mossos d'Esquadra recorded 253 reports of sexual assault across the Lleida region, about five reported cases each week. Police also made 118 arrests in Lleida for these offences during the same period.
