Firefighters in Lleida brought a vegetation fire in Parc de la Mitjana under control on Monday afternoon, according to emergency services. The blaze started at around 3.20pm and affected one hectare of riverside and forest vegetation.
Six fire crews, supported by the Forest Fire Support Group, known as GRAF, first responded to the incident. Officials said the head of the fire was moving towards the river, and crews focused on the left flank to stop it crossing the next river bend.
As the afternoon went on, the response was increased to ten fire crews, including a helicopter. Firefighters declared the fire controlled at 5.55pm.
While the right flank remained stable, nine crews continued working to put out hot spots. The main priority was to stop the fire spreading along the left flank and moving further along the river’s meander.
