Lleida and Mollerussa are discussing new forms of collaboration in the exhibition sector, with a possible link to the Smart Rural congress. The talks are aimed at strengthening ties between the two cities and supporting shared development projects in inland Catalonia.

The discussions followed an institutional visit by Lleida mayor Fèlix Larrosa to Mollerussa Town Council on 3 June 2026, where he met mayor Marc Solsona. The visit began with Larrosa signing the Book of Honour and continued with a working session with Mollerussa’s municipal government team.

Solsona said the talks focused on ways for the two capitals to work together. He suggested that Mollerussa could host a sub-venue for the future Smart Rural congress, which is intended to promote projects linked to smart territory and services management.

Solsona said Mollerussa can offer organisational experience and the infrastructure needed for the project. He also highlighted the role of both cities as leaders in rural Catalonia, and said the meeting reflected a strong relationship between two municipalities that, in his words, “drive the territory, are pioneers, and share projects in the exhibition field.”

Larrosa said specific alliances are needed to strengthen the potential of inland territories and create shared governance spaces. He said the Smart Rural project is part of a wider effort to launch initiatives that create opportunities, encourage people to stay, and retain talent.

“We need to attract and retain talent because it is key to generating a future of possibilities and hope,” Larrosa said. He added that combining efforts among cities and territories facing similar challenges is important.
