Lleida province is positioning itself as Europe’s leading birdwatching tourism destination, with officials saying it attracts more birdwatching visitors than any other region on the continent. The focus was set out at the second Birding Fòrum Pirineu i Terres de Lleida, held on Monday at La Llotja in Lleida city.

The forum brought together tourism and nature groups to discuss how to market the province’s birdwatching offer and communicate its appeal more clearly. Organisers said Lleida stands out for its wide variety of bird species, which has helped the sector grow in recent years.

According to the event organisers, the province is home to Europe’s best-selling birdwatching tour. They also said the offer is drawing visitors, especially from England.

The Birding Fòrum is a joint effort by the Lleida Provincial Council’s Tourism Board and the Catalan Tourist Board (ACT). It also has support from the Catalan Institute of Ornithology (ICO) and SEO/BirdLife Catalunya, underlining a shared push to promote the area’s natural assets.

Discussions at the forum centred on how to widen the reach of Lleida’s birdwatching products and attract more international visitors. For more Catalonia-wide news, see our news coverage.
