Residents in Lleida photographed what they believe were two possible ignition points during the fire at the Arcofrut fruit cooperative on Monday night, 8 June 2026. The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating how the blaze started and whether it was deliberate.

The fire began at about 10.10pm and damaged around 80% of the cooperative. Local residents in the Vila Montcada-Ciutat Jardí area used their mobile phones to record images showing what appeared to be two separate areas of flames, according to local reports.

The cause has not been confirmed. People present at the scene in the early stages of the fire said the flames appeared to spread from outside in towards the cooperative, which suggests the fire may not have started inside either of the two warehouses that were destroyed.

As a result of the damage, Arcofrut will need to rent cold storage facilities to keep operating. The police investigation is ongoing, with officers examining the evidence to establish how the fire began and whether any criminal activity was involved.
