In Igualada, Jordi Cuadras has been selected as the PSC candidate for mayor in the municipal elections due on 23 May 2027. He is the current opposition leader in Igualada City Council and is campaigning under the slogan, “Change to win” (Canviar per guanyar).
The decision was approved at a party assembly, where members and supporters backed Cuadras. The event was attended by local and national socialist figures, including Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat and First Secretary of the PSC, who had already shown support for Cuadras during a recent visit to Igualada.
Also present were former party figures Jordi Aymamí, Jordi Riba and Salvador Pelfort. The assembly was led by former councillor Pilar Salat, and members of the socialist municipal group in the city council, including Montse Montaña, Quim Roca, Irene Gil and Anselm Pasquina, also took part.
In his speech, Cuadras said he is standing with more experience and a better knowledge of the town than in previous campaigns. He said he understands “the different realities, needs, and demands of the residents” and argued that Igualada needs a new political stage.
Cuadras said the aim is not only to win office, but to change the direction of the city after 16 years of Junts rule. He said Igualada has changed and that its proposals and priorities should change too, calling for “new energy, new ideas, and new enthusiasm” to face current challenges.
