Defence and technology multinational Indra announced on Monday a plan to create 1,500 jobs in Catalonia by 2027, including new locations in Tarragona. The company expects to increase its turnover in Catalonia by 50% to €550 million, up from 2025 figures.

Indra, which currently employs around 3,500 people across eight operational sites in Catalonia, aims to become one of the top ten job creators in the region. The expansion will see the company strengthen its presence beyond Barcelona, with new sites in Tarragona and other parts of Catalonia.

According to Indra's CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, the company sees Tarragona as playing an important role in this growth. Officials believe Tarragona's industrial and technological potential, particularly in innovation and digital transformation, makes it a key area for development.

Strategic Growth Areas

The expansion plan includes a new flagship building in Barcelona. Indra will also focus strategically on sectors such as cybersecurity, industrial digitalisation, defence, space, and communications.

Indra's President, Ángel Simón, stated that Catalonia has "the conditions to lead the transformation of the defence, security, and space sector at a European level." This announcement was made during the 'IV Meeting of the National Defence Industry Ecosystem' in Barcelona.

The event brought together over 200 companies from the sector and institutional representatives, including the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa. The company's focus on these areas aligns with broader regional and European objectives for technological advancement and security.
