High-speed train services between Barcelona and Tarragona were suspended on Monday morning after a fire in Cornellà de Llobregat, just south-west of Barcelona.
Two fire brigade units were sent to the scene and were working to put out the flames, according to local officials. The disruption affects passengers using the high-speed rail line that links Barcelona with Tarragona and other destinations in Catalonia.
The cause of the fire had not been determined. Passengers were being advised to check with their train operator for the latest travel information and any alternative transport options.
The suspension caused delays and cancellations for commuters and other travellers. The line is a key route for intercity travel within Catalonia, and the length of the disruption was still unclear while firefighters continued their work.
Renfe had not given an estimated time for services to resume. Passengers with tickets for affected routes were being directed to Renfe's customer service channels and website for updates. For broader rail and transport coverage, see our news page.
