In Roses, Guardia Civil officers have sealed jet skis belonging to a company after finding significant damage on the vehicle used by a 16-year-old who went missing on 10 June. Investigators are checking whether a collision happened during the guided excursion, according to sources familiar with the case.
Judicial police were at the Santa Margarida marina in Roses on Friday morning, placing markers on the company’s jet skis. The vessels have been immobilised while the investigation into the teenager’s disappearance continues. Officers are examining the damaged jet ski found in Pals, along with other boats that took part in the same excursion and returned to the starting point.
The jet ski was found overturned on Pals beach, near Begur, on Thursday afternoon and was towed to L’Estartit for a detailed inspection. Investigators are trying to establish whether the impact happened during the outing, whether it is linked to the disappearance, or whether it occurred later while the vessel was adrift. The Guardia Civil has not ruled out any line of enquiry.
The police investigation is running alongside an active search for the missing teenager. After the jet ski was found in Pals, the search intensified between L’Escala and L’Estartit, taking into account the location where the vessel appeared, sea currents and recent water conditions. Officers have interviewed the teenager’s companions on the excursion, the company managers and family members. They are also trying to locate the mobile phone the young person had with him, which could help reconstruct his last movements. Access to the phone data will require judicial authorisation.
The teenager disappeared on Wednesday night after a guided jet ski trip off the coast of Roses. The activity took place in the afternoon, and he was expected back at Santa Margarida beach around 8:45pm. His family, who live in Roses, went to the company’s premises when he did not return. The company managers alerted emergency services around 10:45pm after confirming that he had not returned with the rest of the group.
A large search operation then began, involving Bombers, Salvament Marítim, Mossos d’Esquadra, Guardia Civil, Roses Local Police, Agents Rurals and the Red Cross. Initially, the search focused on the Almadrava, Canyelles and Trinitat Castle areas, where the teenager was reportedly last seen. On Thursday morning, the search radius expanded to Torroella de Montgrí. On Friday, the Bombers deployed several units and around 30 personnel, including its drone unit, the GRAE Subaquàtic and command staff. The police investigation and search both continue.
