Girona will open a new Oncohaematology Day Hospital on 1 June, adding 36 treatment points for patients needing cancer and blood disorder care. The unit is part of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and is located in a new building next to Josep Trueta Hospital.
The service is on the first floor and covers nearly 500 square metres. According to officials, the main aims are to increase care capacity, streamline clinical processes, and improve patient comfort and safety.
The new facility is near the River Ter and the heliport, which places it within the wider Josep Trueta Hospital site. That location should help patients access other hospital services more easily when needed.
For Girona and the surrounding area, the opening adds specialist capacity for day treatment and supports a more coordinated care pathway for complex cases. It is also part of ongoing healthcare modernisation in the city.
