Platform Offers Localised Data on 79 Indicators

The Diputació de Girona has launched the Observatori ODS2030, a new analytical and visualisation tool designed to measure progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across all 221 municipalities in the province. The platform compiles a set of 79 indicators selected for their thematic relevance and availability of open, comparable public data. These indicators draw from recommendations by major international reference organisations such as the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), REDS-SDSN, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), and UN-Habitat.

Interactive Analysis and Citizen Perception Tools

The observatory enables interactive analysis by municipality, comarca, population size, specific SDG, or individual indicator. It integrates strategic planning instruments and citizen perception metrics aligned with the SDGs, offering a comprehensive view of sustainability in the region. The tool supports decision-making by providing territorialised, accessible data to identify local challenges and guide public policy. According to Nil Papiol, the Diputació’s delegate for SDGs, "this viewer represents another step forward in our commitment to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals across the entire province."

"Having territorialised and accessible information is essential to understanding the reality of our municipalities, identifying key challenges, and directing public policies,"

Papiol added.

Map Highlights 51 Local Best Practices

Complementing the observatory is the Mapa de bones pràctiques en Agenda 2030, which showcases initiatives from Girona’s municipalities contributing to the SDGs. Currently, it features 51 best practices from 37 different towns, covering 16 of the 17 SDGs. Projects highlighted include efforts in environmental sustainability, social development, civic education, and responsible resource management. The map aims to increase visibility of local achievements and encourage knowledge sharing among municipal governments. Residents, local authorities, and civil society organisations can access the full platform and explore the data at visor2030.diba.cat, a system modelled on similar tools developed by the Diputació de Barcelona.
