Girona’s fire service says the province is heading into a complex wildfire season, with high temperatures and strong winds creating the main risk. Jordi Martín, head of the fire service in the region, said this combination has already happened twice in Girona’s forests.

The main concerns are in Garrotxa and Ripollès, where there is a lot of dead vegetation and some areas are hard to reach. That makes firefighting more difficult if a blaze starts.

Emergency services are asking for public responsibility and saying self-protection is key. A total of 760 firefighters, including professionals and volunteers, will be deployed across Girona province, supported by 84 forest assistants.

The fire service says the biggest worry is when extreme heat and strong winds happen at the same time. Dry vegetation can catch fire more easily, while wind can spread flames quickly and make them harder to control.

Officials are also preparing for the possibility of several fires starting at once, or for a small fire to grow fast. They will keep monitoring weather conditions and working with local authorities on prevention measures.
