Girona FC is searching for a new manager after Míchel’s departure, with the club now focused on shaping its next project in Girona. The change ends a five-year spell in the top coaching role.

Club officials are expected to hold a press conference this week to explain the plan for next season. The announcement follows reflection after the team’s relegation two Saturdays ago against Elche. Quique Cárcel will remain as sporting director, according to the club.

The recruitment process is now a priority for Girona FC. Cárcel’s previous appointment of Míchel was a success, and the club now faces the task of making another strong choice from a wide market of available coaches.

Several names are on the shortlist, including Jagoba Arrasate, Xavier Garcia Pimienta, and Carles Martínez Novell, formerly of Toulouse. Quique Álvarez, who is currently with the club’s reserve team, is also being considered.

Other free agents mentioned include former Girona manager Francisco Rodríguez, Borja Jiménez, Sergio Pellicer, and Raúl González Blanco. Antonio Hidalgo was also a target, but his recent promotion with Deportivo de La Coruña means he is no longer available, officials said.
