Reus is set to receive a replica of Antoni Gaudí’s Assumption Chapel, with the project intended to strengthen the architect’s links to his birthplace. The Gresol Foundation is behind the initiative, according to Diari de Tarragona.
The chapel being copied is currently under construction at Barcelona’s Sagrada Família. Local figures have described the plan as good news and as a way to link Gaudí more firmly with Reus and the wider area.
The proposal is also being framed as a possible boost for tourism in the city. Supporters say the replica could become a notable attraction for visitors interested in Gaudí’s work and in Catalonia’s modernist heritage.
Gaudí was born in Reus, and the city has long promoted its connection to the architect. The new project adds another cultural link between Reus and one of Catalonia’s best-known figures.
