Girona City Council is close to finalising a 50-year concession of the Fontajau pavilion to Bàsquet Girona, with approval expected before the summer holidays. The agreement would give the club long-term control of its home venue and is being presented as a step towards strengthening elite sport in Girona.

The process has involved extensive administrative work, but those procedures are now complete. Last week, the club president, Marc Gasol, joined Lluc Salellas and Quim Ayats to present the plans to the Minister of Sport, Berni Álvarez.

City officials expect the proposal to go before the full council next month, or at the latest in July. If approved, the concession would provide Bàsquet Girona with greater stability for future planning and investment in the pavilion.

The move comes as Girona looks to reinforce its position in professional sport. Local officials say the deal is intended to support the city’s elite sporting profile, while also giving the basketball club a clearer long-term base.
