Police in Girona have arrested a man for stealing a bicycle valued at approximately €12,000 from a tourist in the city's Old Quarter. Officers recovered the vehicle soon after the theft and apprehended the suspect as he tried to escape.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 19 April, at around 9:30am. According to police information, the victim had been out training with a companion and left the bicycle leaning against the wall of a café terrace in the Old Quarter. The bike was not secured or locked. When the owner left the establishment, the bicycle was gone, and police were alerted.
Mossos d’Esquadra officers started a search of the area. They located a man carrying the stolen bicycle on Puigmal Street in the Santa Eugènia neighbourhood. The suspect attempted to flee upon seeing the officers, but police blocked his path. They confirmed it was the recently stolen vehicle and arrested him for theft.
This quick intervention allowed the Mossos d’Esquadra to return the bicycle to its owner following the theft in Girona's historic centre.
