Puigcerdà will host the public presentation of a Generalitat study on Civil War and Franco-era mass graves in Cerdanya on Wednesday 30 July. The event is scheduled for the Sala de Convencions at the Museu Cerdà.
The study is being prepared by the Direcció General de Memòria Democràtica, the Catalan government office for democratic memory. It will add official information about gravesites in the comarca and how they fit into Catalonia’s wider work on documentation, exhumation and identification.
People who may be interested include residents, families researching missing relatives, teachers and local historians. Anyone planning to attend should check the official Agenda de Puigcerdà for timetable updates.
The study forms part of the Generalitat’s broader graves programme. The Department of Justice and Democratic Quality maintains the official Mapa de fosses, the plans de fosses and the memòries d'actuacions that track this work across Catalonia.
According to the Generalitat’s democratic memory programme, this work includes locating graves, documenting sites, carrying out exhumations where planned, and helping identify human remains. A 2022 government agreement also set the framework for continued public policy on democratic memory.
