The exhibition El Penedès amb ulls de Gaudí (The Penedès through Gaudí’s Eyes) opens this Saturday 10 October at 12:00 at the Cava Centre in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, offering a fresh perspective on the architect’s ties to the wine-producing region.
Organised by the Fundació Pinnae and curated by historian and museologist Pere Jordi Figuerola, the exhibition highlights Gaudí’s links to the Penedès, including family connections, documented visits to Vilafranca del Penedès and Olesa de Bonesvalls, and his architectural use of local materials and viticultural traditions.
One notable historical detail featured is Gaudí’s 1883 survey and plans for the Can Rossell de la Llena estate in Gelida, with original documents preserved at Can Bosch d’Anoia. The exhibition also explores how Gaudí incorporated everyday materials into his work, such as reusing champagne bottles from Sant Sadurní in the design of elements at Casa Milà, known as La Pedrera.
The show originally ran in Vilafranca del Penedès during the first half of 2026 at the Espai Cultural Fòrum Berger and the Capella de Sant Pelegrí de Vinseum. It has now been adapted for the Cava Centre, a venue dedicated to the sensory and educational experience of cava.
A Dialogue Between Architecture and Wine
The exhibition traces how Gaudí’s creative vision intersected with the land, stone, agriculture and wine culture of the Penedès. It includes a focus on the Celler del Garraf, a project conceived by Gaudí as an intimate space connected to the produce of the earth.
It also examines the broader influence of Gaudí on regional architecture, including figures such as Santiago Güell and Cèsar Martinell, and landmarks like the Codorníu Winery designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, emblematic of the so-called Cathedrals of Wine.
Visiting the Exhibition
The exhibition will be open to the public from 10 October until 13 November 2026 at the Cava Centre, located at Carrer Hospital, 23, in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia.
Visitors can explore how Gaudí transformed local traditions into architectural innovation, placing the Penedès at the heart of his creative world. The venue itself, managed by the Ajuntament de Sant Sadurní d’Anoia’s tourism office, offers a multisensory journey through the history and craftsmanship of cava.
Further details on visiting hours and booking are available via the official Cava Centre website.
