In Catalonia, Fundació La Caixa has allocated more than €10.5 million to 331 social projects through its 2025 Social Projects Call. The foundation said the funding will support 121,525 vulnerable people across 73 municipalities.
The projects are focused on several areas, with 6% aimed at older people, 42% covering disability, mental health disorders or illness, and 52% directed at poverty and social inclusion. The work includes socio-occupational integration, temporary residential support, intercultural coexistence, healthy habits, emotional management, violence prevention, addiction prevention, culture for social inclusion and digital inclusion.
For this edition, the initial amount paid to organisations when they sign the agreement has risen from 80% to 90% of the aid granted. Fundació La Caixa said the change is intended to give groups more immediate support.
Josep Maria Coronas, the foundation’s general director, presented the call on Wednesday. He said the aim is to help preserve social cohesion and promote collaboration between public and private agents. Marc Simón, the deputy general director, said the calls enable around 1,400 projects each year and help reduce gaps by generating opportunities and promoting equity.
The 2025 call received 916 proposals, from which 331 were selected. The projects will be supported by 2,665 professionals and 9,065 volunteers. Barcelona has the highest number of projects, with 152, followed by Girona and Tarragona with 16 each, Lleida with 12, and Badalona with 10.
The programme has run for more than 25 years. From 1999 to 2025, it has supported 5,758 projects in Catalonia, helping 3 million people with a total contribution of €136.6 million. Across Spain, it has funded about 25,000 projects since 1999, reaching around 10.6 million people with a total budget of €544 million. For more Catalonia-wide coverage, see our news page.
