In Cadaqués, an 80-year-old French diver died on Saturday, 13 June 2026, during an immersion near S'Encalladora island in the Cap de Creus area, according to emergency services. His body was later found submerged at about three metres.
The diver was taking part in the immersion with another person. At around 3.30pm, his diving partner alerted the crew of a nearby boat after the man did not return to the surface.
Emergency teams, including Salvament Marítim, the Guardia Civil, the Generalitat Firefighters and the Mossos d'Esquadra, carried out a search operation. They located the diver's body at about 5.30pm.
Agents from the Guardia Civil's Underwater Activities Unit, the UAS technical group, took charge of recovering the body. The incident happened in a diving area known for its marine life and clear waters.
