International Athletics Event Returns to Figueres
The 31st Encontre de l’Amistat, an international athletics competition fostering ties between clubs from Catalonia, Italy and Switzerland, will take place in Figueres on Saturday 10 October 2026. Organised by the Associació Atlètica Figueres and the Girona Athletics Delegation, with authorisation from the Catalan Athletics Federation (FCA), the event will be held at the Municipal Albert Gurt Athletics Stadium. Athletes aged from under-16 to masters categories are eligible to compete, provided they hold a valid federation licence for the current season. Each athlete may enter a maximum of two individual events plus a relay, under Article 1 of the official regulations.
Registration and Participation Details
Entries must be submitted via CALL ROOM by Monday 5 October 2026. Accepted athletes and the final timetable will be published from Wednesday 7 October. The entry fee is €3 per event for athletes with an FCA licence and €10 per event for those from other regions. No late entries or withdrawals will be accepted. Independent athletes and those from other Spanish autonomous communities must pay by bank transfer to BBVA account ES96 0182 4618 1502 0007 8901 by the Wednesday before the event and send proof of payment to [email protected]. Race numbers can be collected at the stadium office up to 45 minutes before each event.
The Encontre de l’Amistat has been held annually since 1995, always outside the official season in October, promoting bonds between athletes and athletics institutions across countries.
The competition is listed on the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) official calendar as an international event and will be officiated by the Catalan College of Athletics Judges, with electronic timing. In horizontal jumps and throws, athletes will have three attempts, with the top eight earning a fourth attempt to improve their mark. For throws, rankings will be determined by distance alone, regardless of implement weight across categories. Pole vault heights for men will start at 1.40m, increasing to 1.50m and 1.60m, then in 5cm increments.
Boosting Figueres Through Sport
The event operates on a rotational basis among loyal clubs, with Celle Ligure in Italy and Palafrugell in Catalonia having participated continuously. Swiss clubs, absent in recent years, will return in 2026. All activities will take place in Figueres, aiming to promote the city while celebrating athletics. The Associació Atlètica Figueres, a non-profit founded in 2022 to promote physical activity and healthy habits, previously attended the 2025 edition in Italy with a youth delegation.
