In Figueres, Girona, residents gathered on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, to protest against gender violence after the murder of a woman in the city. The demonstration called for accountability and for protection systems to respond sooner when women report fear.

The protest was organised by feminist groups, social entities and activists from Alt Empordà. It took place in Plaça Josep Tarradellas, the square where Kimberli D.G. was murdered a week earlier, turning the area into a place of mourning and public denunciation.

Organisers said violence against women is still reaching support services too late. They argued that action must be immediate when women ask for help, and that current protection mechanisms are not enough.

The demonstration in Figueres adds to wider concern across Catalonia about gender violence and the need for faster, more effective responses. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
