In Figueres, the Guàrdia Urbana has confiscated 64 electric scooters in recent days after finding that they did not comply with the city’s new rules for personal mobility vehicles.

The police said the checks are part of ongoing campaigns against anti-social behaviour involving personal mobility vehicles in the city. They are aimed at improving road safety and encouraging more responsible use of scooters and similar vehicles.

Officers checked whether riders were following the current rules, including maximum speed limits, mandatory helmet use, a ban on riding on pavements, and the requirement for a circulation certificate for personal mobility vehicles.

According to Guàrdia Urbana sources, most of the seized scooters breached several of the rules. That means the riders may also face administrative sanctions.

The enforcement effort in Figueres reflects a wider trend across Catalonia, where municipalities are tightening controls on electric scooters and other personal mobility vehicles as their use continues to grow.

The Guàrdia Urbana says these campaigns will continue. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
