In Figueres, the family of Erika, also known as Kimberli, is seeking justice after her murder two weeks ago in Plaça Josep Tarradellas, according to Diari de Girona.
The Duran García family says it will act as a private prosecution against Andrés Roche, who has confessed to the crime. It plans to request the most severe penalty available and to rigorously review what happened in the 72 hours before Erika’s death.
The family says the violent stabbing in broad daylight has left them devastated. They also question whether the protection system designed to support the victim worked as it should.
The case has raised wider concerns about support for victims of gender-based violence in Catalonia. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
Legal proceedings against Andrés Roche will continue. The family’s request for a review of the 72-hour period could also bring scrutiny to police protocols and victim support services in Figueres and across the region.
