The Federation of Neighbourhood Associations of Barcelona (FAVB) has called for a joint working group with local administrations to improve public transport services in Barcelona North. The organisation states that current provisions are inadequate to meet anticipated urban growth in the area.

According to a FAVB statement, urgent reinforcement of public transport is needed through increased investment and a substantial upgrade of the network. The federation also proposed a separate forum to discuss the use of interurban buses and transport interchanges, anticipating that bus travel will continue to grow as an alternative to train services.

These calls for working groups follow a recent meeting involving the FAVB, Barcelona City Council, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), and Rodalies commuter rail service.

Addressing Rail Network Deficiencies

The FAVB welcomed recent improvements to metro services, including peak-hour reinforcements on lines L1 and L5, as well as better passenger flow management and user information. These measures were implemented to address the "collapse" at Fabra i Puig and La Sagrera stations, which occurred due to the ongoing Rodalies crisis, according to the organisation.

The neighbourhood federation emphasised that this critical situation is not an isolated incident but stems from structural deficiencies within Catalonia's railway network.

The proposed working groups aim to address these long-standing issues and ensure that Barcelona North's public transport infrastructure can support its future development and the needs of its residents.
