El Prat de Llobregat is hosting a series of events throughout May to mark the International Day Against LGTBIfòbia, observed annually on 17 May. These activities aim to challenge discrimination, aggression, and rights violations still faced by many individuals due to their sexual orientation, identity, or gender expression, according to local officials.
The programme starts with a round table discussion titled 'Mirades contra la LGTBIfòbia' (Perspectives Against LGTBIfòbia) on 14 May at 6pm at the Palmira Domènech civic centre. This event will provide a space for reflection and dialogue, highlighting various forms of discrimination experienced by LGTBI individuals. The session seeks to build collective awareness and move towards a more just, diverse, and violence-free society.
Speakers at the round table include Estela Cruz, a multidisciplinary artist from El Prat; Iván Herrador from the Sant Boi Positiu organisation; Elena Longares, a member of Orgull Pota Blava; and Pablo Veas from the Tod@s association. Childcare services will be available, and can be requested by emailing [email protected].
Further Activities Planned
On 16 May, participants can join a guided tour of Barcelona titled 'Nosaltres som! Vivències i resilències a la Barcelona LGTBIQA+' (We Are! Experiences and Resilience in LGTBIQA+ Barcelona). Led by Salva Lou, the tour will explore the history of sexual and gender dissidence in the city. The meeting point is Plaça de l’Agricultura at 9:30am.
The LGTBIQ+ Table of El Prat will convene on 18 May at 6pm at Cases d’en Puig. This participatory forum aims to drive inclusive actions and policies within the municipality. Interested citizens and organisations can join by contacting [email protected].
Another event, the 'Vermuth LGTBI', offers a festive gathering on 24 May at 12pm on La Capsa's terrace, featuring DJ Carmela.
