Manresa, Catalonia, former Bàsquet Manresa captain Dani Pérez has reflected on his first dealings with coach Pedro Martínez, saying the early relationship was “a bit complicated”.

Pérez said the difficult start was “normal” because Martínez did not know him at first. He added: “He arrives and his demands are maximum. He pushed me until I reached what he asked for.”

Pérez played under Martínez for five seasons, a spell that coincided with important milestones for the club. He said Martínez’s demanding style was part of what helped him grow as a player.

Martínez is known for his intense coaching methods and high expectations, and Pérez said he experienced that directly during his time as captain. The comments add context to one of the better-known player-coach relationships at Bàsquet Manresa.
