Police Nacional has arrested a dangerous fugitive in Lleida who was wanted by UK judicial authorities over a serious assault charge. The suspect, described as "highly violent" by both British and Spanish authorities, was detained following an international arrest warrant issued by the Crown Prosecution Service at Snaresbrook.
The man is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to another patient while detained at a high-security psychiatric hospital in the UK. He subsequently escaped from the facility and returned to Spain, where he is believed to have carried out multiple violent incidents in central Lleida.
In June 2026, he was caught on video attacking a man with a knife to the neck during a street fight in Lleida’s historic city centre. The footage spread rapidly on social media and aided police in tracking his movements.
The suspect has numerous prior criminal records in Spain, including attempted murder, violent robbery and assault.
The arrest was conducted by officers from the Provincial Police Commissariat in Lleida, with support from Spain’s OCN-Interpol unit. After being apprehended, he was handed over to the Central Investigation Court of the Audiencia Nacional, which ordered his immediate imprisonment the same day.
Pattern of violence confirmed
According to Police Nacional, the fugitive had already established a record of extreme aggression in Spain before the UK incident. His known criminal history includes attempted homicide and multiple violent robberies.
Authorities highlighted the efficiency of data verification and inter-agency cooperation in identifying and capturing the suspect. Since January 2026, the Fugitive Squad of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade under the Superior Police Prefecture of Catalonia has executed 50 European Arrest Warrants.
The case underscores ongoing cross-border law enforcement collaboration between Spain and the UK, particularly in tracking individuals deemed high-risk.
