In Sant Pol de Mar, Barcelona, the CUP's parliamentary president, Pilar Castillejo, urged ERC and Comuns to oppose the Catalan government's budget. Castillejo stated that Catalonia is experiencing significant conflicts involving teachers, healthcare workers, and housing.

Speaking to reporters alongside the party's general secretary, Non Casadevall, Castillejo expressed her disbelief. "We do not understand how Comuns and Esquerra can be supporting the Generalitat's budget," she said. She criticised the executive's policies, claiming they neglect the defence of the Catalan language and the working class.

Casadevall explained that the CUP's conference, titled 'Sense llengua no hi ha país, sense país no hi ha llibertat' (Without language there is no country, without country there is no freedom), aims to generate collective proposals to defend and promote Catalan. He described the current situation of the language as an emergency.

Defending the Catalan Language

"These are conferences to reflect on how we can make Catalan an even more integrating tool, how to build a nation through language," Casadevall added. The event saw the presentation of the 'Declaració de Sant Pol' (Sant Pol Declaration).

This CUP document links the future of the Catalan language to independence. It also denounces what the party calls "institutional neglect" and advocates for an education system taught exclusively in Catalan.
