Cervià de Ter was the setting for a municipalist meeting by CUP-Som Poble, where the group set out its shared goals for next year’s local elections. More than fifty people attended, including current mayors, councillors, future candidates and party activists.
The meeting opened with remarks from Cervià de Ter mayor Guillem Surroca and activist Alba Jaén, who spoke about the need to maintain and create new candidacies. Round tables then focused on housing, language, productive models and the energy transition, with contributions from Marta Ball-llosera, Dani Cornellà, Sergi Font and Marta Guillaumes.
Housing was a central theme throughout the day. Girona mayor Lluc Salellas closed the event by calling for forceful measures against property speculation, including limits on the purchase of homes for residential use, according to officials.
Salellas also backed municipal taxation to penalise speculative practices and help guarantee access to dignified housing. He said the party wanted to reduce dependence on tourism, meat industries and large IBEX35 corporations, while also tackling wage regression and job precarity.
He added that, in the face of a growing far right across the Catalan countries, there is a greater need than ever for CUP candidacies that are clearly pro-independence and focused on the popular classes. For more local political coverage, see our news tag.
