Cerdanyola del Vallès will celebrate International Dance Day on Saturday, 25 April, with an open-air dance showcase in Parc Xarau. The event, starting at 10:30am, aims to bring dance closer to residents and highlight local talent, according to the city council.
The day will feature performances from various dance schools and groups based in the city. These include the Flamenco School of Casa de Andalucía, the Flamenco Group of Serraperera Civic Centre, Multi-Sport Dance School, Qóreo Dance Studio, the Dansara Association, Roger's School, and the Ateneu Dance School.
Organisers intend for the event to be a space for community and artistic expression. Dance is presented as a universal language that can connect people of all ages and backgrounds. The celebration is free and open to everyone, inviting residents to enjoy and share culture together.
International Dance Day Background
International Dance Day is officially observed on 29 April each year. This initiative began in 1982, driven by the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, honouring Jean-Georges Noverre, who is considered the creator of modern ballet.
For 2026, the commemoration focuses on dance as an expression of spirituality and a tool for emotional connection. It highlights dance's power to promote empathy and collective well-being. Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite delivered this year's international message, emphasising dance as a vehicle for deep expression and human connection.
In Catalonia, the Association of Dance Professionals of Catalonia has also joined the celebration. They issued their own manifesto, signed this year by Jordi Cortés.
