Catalonia will open applications on 1 July for housing adaptation grants for people aged 65 and over in Girona, Lleida and Tarragona. The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition said the scheme is meant to improve mobility and autonomy at home.
The programme has a total budget of €1.16 million. Applications will be accepted until 30 September, according to the government statement released on Saturday.
The grants can cover up to 100% of the work cost, with a maximum of €4,000 per home. The total renovation budget must not exceed €8,000.
Eligible works include accessibility improvements in kitchens and bathrooms. The aid also covers bringing water, gas, heating, electricity and sanitation installations up to current regulations.
To qualify, the home must be the applicant’s habitual residence. No family member may own another property in Catalonia, and household income must not exceed double the Catalan Sufficiency Income Indicator, known as the IRSC.
Applicants must also be 65 or older and show a lack of autonomy, mobility issues, or a disability of 33% or more, the government said. For more Catalonia-wide updates, see our news page.
