Puigcerdà was the focus of a cross-border health meeting this week, as around 50 health professionals, managers and institutional leaders from Catalonia and France gathered at Cerdanya Hospital to strengthen cooperation.

The working session brought together teams from both sides of the border to share experience, review current projects and discuss future challenges for the cross-border health model in the Cerdanya area.

A key item on the agenda was a new coordination agreement between Catalonia's SEM, the Medical Emergency System, and France's SAMU, the Urgent Medical Aid Service. The mechanism is intended to improve responses to specific medical emergencies in border areas, with clear protocols for activating emergency resources quickly.

The meeting also covered updates to Cerdanya Hospital's services and plans to improve patient care. Those discussions included hiring new professionals, expanding services for French users and modernising the hospital's facilities.

The head of the Unit for French Users and Professionals, known as UAUP, presented recent activity data showing sustained growth and a rising number of patients from France. The unit plays an important role in communication between the two health systems and in maintaining continuity of care.

Participants also used the session to build new professional contacts and reinforce existing working relationships. The institutions involved plan to continue these meetings, with the aim of deepening cooperation between Catalonia, Cerdanya and neighbouring French territories.
