Youth teams from Club Atlètic Igualada and Avinent Manresa secured four medals at the Catalan Relay Championships in Castellar del Vallès. The clubs from central Catalonia earned one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the final day of competition.
A total of 18 teams from the central Catalonia region competed. CA Igualada sent 10 teams, while Avinent Manresa had 8 teams. They faced over a thousand athletes from other Catalan clubs, according to Regió 7.
Manresa's Gold and Silver Success
Among the most notable results, Avinent Manresa's Under-14 female team won gold in the 4x200m relay. Núria Ponti, Aina Caso, Queralt Sauquillo, and Èlia Garcia finished in 1'49''72. This time was more than three seconds faster than their previous best and just 25 hundredths of a second shy of the Catalan record.
The same Manresa team, with Lara Pesoa replacing Aina Caso, also secured a silver medal in the faster 4x80m relay. They recorded a time of 41''60, only four hundredths of a second behind the gold medal position, and also improved their prior mark.
Bronze Medals for Manresa and Igualada
Avinent Manresa's final medal was a bronze, earned by the Under-12 male team in the 3x600m event. Àlex Rodríguez, Pau Bernades, and Roure Vilalta achieved a time of 5'38''91 to claim third place on the podium.
Club Atlètic Igualada also celebrated a bronze medal. Their Under-18 male team finished third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 45''03. Arnau Figueres, Bogdan A. Iurian, Isaac Hernández, and Alex Campaña improved their semifinal time by four tenths of a second in the final, securing the medal for the Igualada delegation.
These results highlight the strong performance of central Catalan youth athletics. Clubs will now look to build on this success in future regional and national competitions, continuing to develop young talent in the sport.
