€50 Million Investment Approved for Regional Hospitals

The Catalan Government has approved a revised multi-year agreement to increase funding for healthcare infrastructure across the Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf (CSAPG) by nearly €8 million, bringing the total investment to €50.13 million. The decision, confirmed on 29 September 2026, expands on the original 2022 agreement that allocated €42.16 million for works between 2023 and 2027. This new funding will support ongoing and future construction projects across the consortium’s three main facilities: Hospital Comarcal de l’Alt Penedès in Vilafranca, Hospital Residència Sant Camil in Sant Pere de Ribes, and Hospital Sant Antoni Abat. Works are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2032.

Focus on Resilience and Modernisation

The updated plan responds to emerging needs, including damage from extreme weather events such as the DANA storm in July 2026, which highlighted vulnerabilities in the Hospital Comarcal Alt Penedès. As part of resilience improvements, essential equipment including backup power generators and low-voltage electrical panels will be relocated to higher, protected areas. Additional measures include structural reinforcement, roof waterproofing upgrades, and improvements to drainage systems and connections with municipal sewage networks.

The new government agreement is necessary to prepare and adapt the capacity of the three healthcare infrastructures, align them with territorial healthcare planning, expand and modernise facilities and equipment, and provide suitable spaces for professionals and citizens.

At Hospital Comarcal Alt Penedès, investments have already delivered a new Dialysis Centre and the Education and Training Building. Other completed upgrades include expanded rehabilitation services, renovated digestive care units, and initial flood protection works.

Sant Camil and Sant Antoni Abat Upgrades

At Hospital Residència Sant Camil, planned works include renovations to emergency departments, outpatient surgery, ICU units, diagnostic imaging areas, storage, patient wards, public elevators, and exterior facades. Projects also cover upgrades to central utilities including cold and heat plants, medical gas systems, water treatment, and medium-voltage electrical infrastructure. The Sant Antoni Abat site will continue to benefit from coordinated modernisation efforts under the broader CSAPG investment framework. Further details on project timelines and procurement are available via the CSAPG transparency portal.
