Events Across Reus to Promote Mental Wellbeing

Reus will host its eighth consecutive Mental Health Month from 3 October to 5 November 2026, aligning with World Mental Health Day on 10 October. Organised by the Ajuntament de Reus through its Area of Services to People and Social Rights and the Department of Health and Sports, the programme is delivered in collaboration with the Municipal Disability Council and local mental health organisations.

This year’s theme, Dona'm la mà (Give Me Your Hand), highlights the importance of companionship, social bonds and support networks in overcoming emotional distress and adversity. The initiative aims to raise awareness, prevent mental health issues, reduce stigma and foster inclusive spaces for all residents.

Institutional Act and Public Events

The official opening event takes place on Friday 9 October at 10:00 at the Centre de Lectura de Reus. It will include the reading of a World Mental Health Day manifesto, screening of the film Error 40 by Fundació Tosquelles Salut Mental, presentation of the magazine Estat d'Ànim by the eponymous association, and a dance performance by students from the artistic baccalaureate programme at Institut Gabriel i Ferrater.

The morning continues at 11:45 with a roundtable discussion titled 'Resources for Suicide Prevention and Response', featuring mental health professionals, representatives from the Associació Catalana per a la Prevenció del Suïcidi, and a mental health activist.
  • The 11th edition of Psicurt, the Short Film Festival on Mental Health, runs from Saturday 3 October to Sunday 11 October at Teatre Bartrina and other city venues.

Community Engagement and Closing Event

Throughout October, municipal libraries will feature book displays on mental health. Every Wednesday morning, the Fundació Pere Mata will lead street conversations titled 'What Do We Know About Mental Health?' in central Reus neighbourhoods to engage the public and build collective understanding.

A session introducing Mutual Support Groups will be held for professionals and social support entities, while two 'Inclusive Stories' readings will take place at the Central Xavier Amorós and Pere Anguera libraries, organised by Institut Pere Mata.

The programme concludes on Tuesday 5 November with a co-organised event by the Tarragona branch of the Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya and Reus City Council’s Emotional and Mental Wellbeing Service. The day, titled 'Mental Health and Wellbeing in Different Municipal Facilities: The Professional Role of Information and Communication', features investigative journalist Mar Cabra, a panel discussion with media and health professionals, and a performance by comedy group Risses.
