Free Travel Available on C-32 Between Cubelles and El Vendrell
The mayor of Cunit, Jaume Casañas, is urging drivers travelling between the Garraf and Baix Penedès regions to use the C-32 motorway via the Cubelles access points, highlighting that journeys between Cubelles and El Vendrell are toll-free all year round for all vehicle types. This exemption applies specifically to trips beginning and ending within the stretch connecting Cubelles and El Vendrell. To benefit, users must pay via a dynamic electronic system, either the VIA-T tag or the free AWAI mobile app, which is compatible with the C-32 (Aucat) and other Catalan motorways (autopistas.com).
Call for Better Signage and Public Information
Despite the availability of free travel, Casañas notes that many drivers remain unaware of the scheme. He is calling on the Catalan government (Generalitat) to improve public information and install visible signage at entry and exit points of the C-32, particularly where it connects with the congested C-31 road through Cunit. The C-31 sees around 30,000 vehicles daily, many of them through-traffic between Garraf and Baix Penedès. Using the C-32 alternative could significantly reduce pressure on this key route, improving local traffic flow and road safety.
We want to remind people there is a free alternative for travel between Garraf and Baix Penedès. We ask drivers heading to or from El Vendrell to use the C-32 via Cubelles. But this option must be clearly communicated. The Generalitat should reinforce signage so all users know about the available discounts,
said Mayor Casañas.
If some of the through-traffic between Garraf and Baix Penedès can use the C-32 and avoid the C-31, we all benefit: less pressure on a road that cuts through Cunit, and improved mobility and road safety in the municipality.
