Driver Detained for Excessive Speed
The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, issued a criminal complaint against a 25-year-old driver for allegedly endangering road safety by driving at 190 km/h on the C-14 highway through Peramola in the Alt Urgell region. The incident occurred on Monday morning during a routine speed control operation. At nearly 12:00 pm, officers recorded the vehicle passing at more than double the legal speed limit of 90 km/h at a point along the C-14 within the municipal boundary of Peramola.
The driver is suspected of committing a criminal offence against road safety by exceeding the speed limit to a punishable degree.
The vehicle was intercepted and the man was formally charged. Under Spanish traffic law, driving at such excessive speeds constitutes a criminal offence, not merely an administrative fine.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Following the stop, the vehicle was impounded and placed under the authority of the on-duty duty court. The driver must appear before the Solsona Investigating Court when summoned. This case is being processed by the Jutjat d’Instrucció en funcions de guàrdia de Solsona, the on-duty judicial body responsible for receiving initial reports of criminal incidents in the area.
The Mossos d'Esquadra continue to conduct regular speed enforcement operations across rural highways, particularly in mountainous areas like Alt Urgell where road conditions can be hazardous. Drivers are reminded that speed limits are strictly enforced, especially in zones with sharp bends and limited visibility.
