In Olot, Càritas Garrotxa will now manage the Bicis Actives project after the city council’s Local Government Board approved a new collaboration agreement. The scheme refurbishes used bicycles and makes them available to children, young people and adults in vulnerable situations.
The agreement formalises a change in coordination and bicycle distribution, with Càritas Diocesana and Aula Format also involved in the project. It is intended to support access to transport and leisure for people who may otherwise not have it.
Bicis Actives collects unwanted bicycles, repairs them and returns them to community use. Alongside the social aim, the project also supports reuse and reduces waste by giving bicycles a second life.
Càritas Garrotxa’s role is expected to cover collection, repair and distribution. The partnership with Aula Format will continue to support the project’s day-to-day work and the handover of responsibilities.
