Cardona, in Central Catalonia, says its Cuidem-nos programme has delivered nearly 150 care services to dependent residents over the past five years. The initiative began in the municipality in 2021 and was set up to support dependent people and their carers.

The programme was launched under the Treball als Barris, or Work in Neighbourhoods, scheme run by the Public Employment Service of Catalonia, SOC. According to officials, it has also created around ten local employment contracts in the care sector, linking social support with job creation in the area.

Alongside direct care, Cuidem-nos has trained around 50 people in home care. The training is intended to strengthen skills in the sector and support more professional care services for local residents.

The programme forms part of wider public employment and social care work in Catalonia. More coverage of local public service and employment news is available on our news page.

Officials say the scheme aims to improve quality of life for dependent people while also creating work within the territory. Its continued operation in Cardona may offer a reference point for other municipalities facing similar care and employment needs.
