Both the Guàrdia Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra are preparing a special security operation to manage any spontaneous gatherings elsewhere in the city centre. Municipal sources stated the goal is to ensure "the maximum conditions of security and mobility" for large celebrations. Plaça de Catalunya, located a short distance from Canaletes and with a greater capacity for crowds, is among the alternative spaces being considered.
Barça could mathematically secure the title this Sunday if they get a point against Real Madrid. Given this, the council believes the area around Canaletes, which is currently filled with fences, construction materials, and access restrictions, does not offer enough safety for a mass celebration.
