Emergency services are searching for a female diver missing off the Cadaqués coast in Girona after strong currents swept her away during a dive. The incident happened in the s'Encalladora integral reserve, off Cap de Creus.

The alarm was raised at 11:48am on Wednesday. According to initial reports, the diver was with a partner when both got into difficulty and were carried by the current.

The man managed to return to their boat, but the woman did not. He has not been able to find her since, which prompted the search operation.

The search is being carried out by sea, land and air, with the main focus on the water. Generalitat Firefighters are involved with seven units, including a helicopter, a drone unit and a subaquatic unit. Maritime services from Cadaqués Town Council are also taking part, along with the Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue.

Firefighter sources said there has been no sign of the woman so far. Teams are not ruling out the possibility that she may have reached another point along the coast, but the search remains centred on the maritime area.
