In Cadaqués, Girona, environmental and neighbourhood groups have warned that a planned cycling path could alter the village’s character and affect the landscape identity of the municipality and the Cap de Creus area.

The project is funded through the European NextGenerationEU programme. The groups say the works could affect protected natural spaces and change traditional paths and access routes.

They argue that the scheme could change the village model itself, pointing to Cadaqués’ coastal setting and its close link to the surrounding landscape.

The groups also question the use of public money for the project, citing €130,000 in funding. They say the investment supports a model they consider unsustainable for the area.

Local officials have not yet responded to the specific claims raised by the groups. Read more local coverage on our news page.

The debate over the cycling path is continuing, with the main concerns centred on landscape impact, protected areas and how the project fits with the village’s identity.
