In Cadaqués, Girona, environmental and neighbourhood groups have warned that a new cycle path, funded through the EU's NextGenerationEU programme, could change the village's character and affect the landscape identity of the municipality and the Cap de Creus area.

The groups say their main concerns are the impact of construction work on protected natural spaces and the possible transformation of traditional paths and access routes. They also question the use of public funds, including the €130,000 allocated to the project, for what they see as an unsustainable model.

Officials say the project is intended to improve cycling infrastructure. Critics argue that it risks damaging the natural setting of Cadaqués, a town known for its coastal scenery and artistic heritage, as well as the surrounding Cap de Creus Natural Park.

The Cap de Creus Natural Park is a protected area recognised for its geological formations and biodiversity. The groups say any new infrastructure should respect the environmental and cultural values of the area.

They are calling for a review of the project and want authorities to consider alternative solutions that fit the long-term sustainability of the region. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
