Blanes council in Girona has started work on its three main bathing beaches ahead of the summer season. The municipality is levelling and redistributing sand, with the aim of having the beaches ready for 15 June.

Heavy machinery, including excavators and lorries, first went to S'Abanell beach, which was heavily affected by recent storms. Large amounts of sand had built up, especially near promenade access points, and the work is removing the excess and spreading it more evenly.

Some of that sand is being moved to Blanes Centre beach to improve conditions there. The Civil Protection Department is supporting the operation, especially in areas that are already seeing many visitors. For more local updates, see our news coverage.

At the same time, municipal brigades, working with the Environment department, are installing beach services. These include information panels, display cases, signage and flagpoles to show sea conditions, including Blue Flags for environmental quality.

Showers, which were brought back in 2025 after a two-year suspension because of drought, will also be installed in the coming days. Access walkways for people with reduced mobility or pushchairs, plus shaded areas, are also part of the preparations. Aigües de Blanes will manage the shower service.

Lifeguard, surveillance and control services will begin on Saturday, 13 June, at the municipality's three main beaches. For 2026, a specialised company will run these services under the coordination of Civil Protection, with several new features compared with previous seasons.

Blanes council says the work is intended to leave the beaches safe, accessible and fully equipped for the start of the summer season.
