Barcelona tourism body Turisme de Barcelona has asked Lego to make more city landmarks, after the toy maker launched a 12,000-piece Sagrada Família set. The request was posted on the @visitbarcelona Instagram account, with the message: “Hello, Lego, could you also make these iconic buildings of Barcelona?”
The appeal came shortly after Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Barcelona, which coincided with the unveiling of the Sagrada Família Lego set. Turisme de Barcelona said it wants Lego to look beyond the basilica and include more of the Catalan capital’s architecture.
In the post, the tourism body said it is proud of “the tallest church in the world”, but added that Barcelona has other architectural works worth considering. It linked the campaign to the city’s Year of Architecture celebrations. For background on the city’s tourism promotion, see our news coverage.
The Instagram post included AI-generated images of possible Lego models. The suggested buildings and landmarks included the Fundació Miró, the Tres Xemeneies building, the Port Cable Car, the Calatrava Tower, the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion and the Walden 7 building in Sant Just Desvern.
The proposals also featured sculptures, including Botero’s Cat on the Rambla del Raval and Els Mistos, also known as The Matches, in Vall d’Hebron. Turisme de Barcelona said the idea is to promote the city’s architectural heritage to a wider global audience. More on the official tourism body is available at Barcelona Turisme.
