Barcelona has started its wildfire prevention programme, focusing on the Collserola Natural Park. Work will concentrate on forested areas within Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Les Corts, Nou Barris, and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi.

The tasks involve clearing undergrowth, pruning low branches, and removing dry and dead vegetation. According to municipal sources, these efforts aim to minimise fire spread during high-risk periods and make surveillance and extinction work easier. Three teams will operate simultaneously on the city's south and south-east slopes.

Each team is expected to cover a third of 66 hectares monthly. The first phase will run until July and resume in September. After the highest risk period, work will continue to complete the perimeter by the end of 2026.

Work Locations and Restrictions

Until June, the work will be centred in Nou Barris. The second phase will move to Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. Access restrictions remain in place for Collserola Park due to African swine fever. However, wildfire prevention work is authorised as an essential service and will proceed with appropriate disinfection measures.
