Barcelona has started its programme to prevent forest fires, focusing on the Collserola Natural Park. Work in the wooded areas of Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Les Corts, Nou Barris, and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi will involve clearing weeds, pruning low branches, and removing dry and dead vegetation.

These tasks aim to minimise fire spread during high-risk periods and help with surveillance and extinction efforts, according to municipal sources. Three teams will work simultaneously on the city's south and south-east slopes.

Each team is expected to cover a third of 66 hectares monthly. The first phase runs until July and then resumes in September. After the highest fire risk period, work will continue to complete the perimeter by the end of 2026.

Work Locations and Restrictions

Until June, efforts will concentrate on Nou Barris. The second phase will then move to Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. Access to Collserola Park currently has restrictions due to African swine fever.

However, forest fire prevention work is authorised as an essential service. These operations will proceed with the necessary disinfection measures in place.
