Barcelona will allocate 316 public housing units through six new lotteries before the end of 2026, city officials have said. The plan follows six earlier lotteries this year, which distributed 282 homes.
The figures come as 100,179 people were waiting for public housing in Barcelona in March 2026. That total includes 51,942 applications from families, couples, flatmates and individuals seeking access to the city’s public housing stock.
Of the 316 homes, 48 are in buildings bought by the City Council a decade ago, during Ada Colau’s term as mayor. Officials said the rehabilitation of those properties has been delayed.
The new lotteries are part of the council’s wider effort to increase the supply of protected housing in the city. The aim is to ease pressure on Barcelona’s housing market, where demand for affordable homes remains high.
