Figueres, in Girona province, is set to host the first official godparents of the Museu del Joguet de Catalunya, with singer Quim Carandell and children’s group El Pot Petit taking on the role.
Carandell, lead singer of La Ludwig Band, will receive the title during an acoustic concert on the museum terrace on Saturday, 13 June, at 12.30pm. El Pot Petit will follow with its own event on 27 June. Both events are open to the public.
The museum says the idea builds on the vision of its founder, Josep Maria Joan i Rosa, who invited Catalan cultural figures, including Quim Monzó, Pep Guardiola, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí, to connect with the collection by recalling childhood memories through objects or photographs.
Musician Pau Guillamet, known as Guillamino, proposed formalising that tradition by appointing godparents to act as ambassadors for the museum. The first two chosen are both from the Empordà region.
Carandell has said he is excited about the proposal and has known the museum since childhood. El Pot Petit is a well-known children’s and family entertainment group. Places are limited to 60 people for each event, and prior registration is required through the museum’s website.
